Beth Gadbaw introduced this song to me. It's about a selkie, who has married the man who stole her seal skin. She lives the life of a fisherman's wife, taking the name Mary Hinney. One day, her children find her seal skin, which had been hidden away by the fisherman. Taken with its strange beauty, the children rush to show it to her. The moment she sees it, she is compelled to put it on and off she swims, out to sea. From then on, she is often seen swimming back and forth in the harbor, keeping watch over her family. There is no denying the deep truth of who you are.
